CITRONELLA

Obtained from a grass, citronella has a light, fresh, uplifting, citrus aroma.  The lemon-scented stalks are sometimes used in tropical dishes.  Citronella is most commonly know for it's insect and cat repelling properties.  The oil is also used as a skin conditioner.
Aromatherapy Class: Soothing.
Botanical Name: Cymbopogon nardus
Family: Gramineae
Origin: The most esteemed varieties come from Java, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles, New Guinea, and Guyana.
Description: Course green grass with lemon-scented stalks.
Fragrance: Strong aromatic lemony smell.
Perfume Note: Top.
Extraction Method: Steam distillation

Naturally Occurring Compounds: Citronellol (up to 50%); geraniol, citral, methyl-eugenol, borneol, citral, various terpenes, among others.
