EUCALYPTUS

A very aromatic, camphor-like, smelling herb boasting approximately 600 species, eucalyptus is often included in sore-muscle remedies because of it's skin warming and muscle soothing properties  Well known for it's use in inhalants and chest rubs, it is also useful for wounds and insect bites.

Botanical Name: Eucalyptus globulus
Eucalyptus citriodora
Family: Myrtaceae -- (myrtle or eucalyptus family)
Origin: Australia.  Today cultivated in China, Egypt, Algeria, Spain, Portugal, India, and South America.
Description: Eucalyptus globulus grows over 300 feet high.  Leaves are blue green, pointed and tough.  The tree has light bark and particulary hard wood.
Fragrance: Camphor-like and somewhat lemony.
Perfume Note: Top.
Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the leaves and older branches.
Yield: 50 pounds of plant material yields 1 pound of oil.
Naturally Occurring Compounds: Eucalyptus globulus -- eucalyptol (80% to 85%), butylaldehyde, fenchen, globulol, isoamylalcohol, camphen, capronaldehyde, pinen, pinocarveol, terpineol, sequiterpene, sesquiterpenal alcohol, valeraldehyda, among others.
