LEMONGRASS

An aromatic grass native to tropical regions having a sweet lemony aroma that refreshes.  Said to improve circulation and muscle tone.  A gentle cleanser, generally used for normal to oily skin.  Lemongrass is an antiseptic sometimes used for treating athlete's foot and acne.  Insects dislike the fragrance of lemongrass, even fleas living in animal furs will leave.
Aromatherapy Class: Calming.
Botanical Name: Cymbopogon citratus
Family: Graminaceae -- (sweet grass family)
Origin: India.  Cultivated today in Guatemala, Brazil, China, Africa, Haiti.
Description: A aromatic grass with clumped, bulbous stems becoming leaf blades, somewhat leek like in appearance.  The grass grows up to 5 feet in height.
Fragrance: Sweet, lemon aroma.
Perfume Note: Top.
Extraction Method: Steam distillation
Yield: Approximately 33 pounds of grass yields 1 pound of essential oil.
Naturally Occurring Compounds: Crital (85%), n-dezylaldehyde, dipenten, fernosol, geraniol, linalool, limonen, methylheptenon, nerol, citronellal, myrcen, among others.
