SPEARMINT

The mints are some of the best known essential oils in aromatherapy. Mint was prescribed by Greek an Roman herbalists for just about everything. Peppermint is probably the most favorite member of the mint family.  It stimulates, refreshes, cools, and uplifts the mind and body.  It is excellent for tired feet and for reducing the effects of travel sickness in humans, cats and dogs.

Origin: United States 
Description: A creeping perennial plant with erect, square, branching stems with aromatic foliage.  
Fragrance: Fresh, bright and minty.

Extraction Method: Steam distillation.
Yield: Approximately 1000 pounds of plant material yields 1 pound of essential oil.
Naturally Occurring Compounds: L-carvone (50% - 70%), phellandrene, menthon, menthol, cineol, linalol, thymol, L-limonen, a-pinen, among others.

Cautions:
May cause skin irritation dilute to 1% in carrier oil and use no more than 3 drops in bath.  Do not use on infants and small children.  People with hay fever should avoid mint oil since it may irritate mucous membranes.
